Meet Laura from The Red Bird
For the past 23 years, Laura has lived in 2 small Waterloo Region towns. She loves the feeling of family and community that a small town creates. Rural roads and farmland landscapes has always brought a sense of calmness and quietness to her day. It’s easy to get into the city, but driving back home to the countryside brings her peace and clarity. 🏡
Her favourite part about running a small business is the joy in seeing someone excited and happy about an item she has created. Laura loves creating, and to be able to showcase her talents and sell them brings so much satisfaction. Although she's still very much in the growth phase, the flexibility of this chapter is one of the benefits she enjoys. It gives her the opportunity to be with family that live across the country and province and that is very important to her. 🥰
If Laura could travel anywhere in Canada, she would choose Newfoundland and the Northern Territories. Her daughter has spent quite a bit of time in Yellowknife and has shared so many great experiences from her time there. Laura and her husband also love the East Coast and Newfoundland is one spot they have not yet seen. Canada has so many beautiful places and she has been fortunate to have visited many from Coast to Coast. 🇨🇦
Laura has always been active in the communities she's lived in. She volunteered at her children’s school in their elementary days and was a coach for both her daughter’s ringette teams for many years. Through her business, she gives back where she can by donating items and taking part in fundraisers where she donates a portion of her sales. She believes giving back to the community is really important and it does not always have to be monetary. She can’t always afford that cost, but if she can afford the time, that is equally important and valuable.
